ABOUT XANTU

DOB: 3/1/2022

Weight: 60lbs

Energy level: Moderate

Overall drive: Moderate

Location: Woodland, WA

Xantu is a very eager young man who just wants to please his human and suck up all the learning like a sponge. He has energizer bunny energy to play for hours but when it is time to sleep, he just passes out on the bed or couch. His enjoyment of human company is pretty amazing, most dogs want it to be active attention all the time, but not Xantu, he is happy just hanging on the other end of the couch from you. If Xantu was a human he would surely be an amateur athlete. He loves playing ball but just for fun; he’s not really competitive enough to be a pro athlete. #BeerLeagueBallMVP His foster says that Xantu is like a toddler in a big dog body, he is curious but not overly confident and impulsive.

While he does enjoy human affection, he is not a fan of hugs #GetOffMeBro, just likes to be near you on the couch. During his foster time, he mastered commands Load (crate/car/run), Sit, Down, Drop, With Me, Bed, and Go Potty. Commands he is still working on include Leave It, Heel, Stay, and Relax. Xantu does not mind riding in the car, in fact, he settles easily into his crate and just chills for the majority of the ride. At the vet’s office, he is fairly neutral, he will accept restraint from his foster but gets very anxious if being handled by the vet’s staff. With loud noises, he will alert bark and search the area if he thinks the noise was close by. He can be slightly rambunctious so he should not go to a home with small animals or small children. Additionally, he seems uninterested with livestock and will ignore chickens if he is actively working/training. Other dogs do not seem to bother him while on a walk or during training with a ball or tug but he has been known to fence-fight with the neighbor’s dog.

is not a fan of overly prim and proper homes as he enjoys drinking water from his bucket with his whole body, his foster is pretty sure Xantu is part Lab with the way he “drinks”. His level of personal control at this in life is about the same as a 4-year-old left alone in Willy Wonka’s factory. While he is both food and toy-motivated he plays very sloppy and can get a finger or hand while trying to get to his ball of food, not maliciously just poor control. For correction, he is working well with a prong collar and Garmin bark limiter. Trashcan raiding might be a thing from Xantu if given the opportunity, but he has yet to show interest in counter surfing but will attempt to find his ball or tug if it is not put away securely enough. #IWillFindMyPrecious

Xantu is looking for a forever home that can exercise his body and mind for at least 60-90 minutes a day broken into separate sessions. If left to his own devices he will find a job that he wants to do but that job might not fall in line with what he should be doing. An active human who works from home or has a lot of time to devote to his training and the dedication to stay consistent with the training will be key for Xantu to be successful.
