Sawyer is a sweet young man that wants nothing more in life than to be with his people and give them all his love. At some point during his construction the idea that he is a lap dog was implanted into his brain, so be ready for a lap-full of Sawyer. He plays non-stop bitey face and chase with his foster pack as well.
In case you haven’t noticed from the photos of this dashing young man, he is an imposter here in the Malinois world but who doesn't love that face? His foster says that if Sawyer was a human he would probably be employed as an electronics repairman, as he has a knack for finding small electronic devices and attempting to figure out what makes them tick. #ListenImJustTryingToHelp So these items need to be secured from his youthful inquisitiveness. After his apprenticeship, he will be ready to be helping in your repair shop in no time, but it might be a while before he passes his journeyman's exam. #DontTellHimTho
Sawyer is probably the cuddliest of impasta-mals that we have ever seen. You sit on the couch; boom, Sawyer is there as well. You head to bed for the night; kablammo, Sawyer is there as too. Want some alone time, not gonna have any with this fella. #Stage5Clinger He is very food motivated and loves learning new commands and tricks, but will just as happily lay on his back all day if you just rub his stomach. His foster states that he fits in great with their three dogs as well. They have started to venture out of the house with him, and he seems to do well even at the office for a day of work. If he isn’t comfortable he is just super clingy to his person. During his outings, he has met multiple children over the age of seven and does great, but since he is a big puppy, you have to keep an eye on him so he doesn’t become a bull in a China shop and knock them over.
Sawyer has mastered the Sit for food, Wait for food, Sit, and Down commands. He is currently working on mastering Leave it, off, and other on-leash skills as well. Additionally, he uses the dog door like a champ and has not had any in-home accidents. Do not leave food out as he will snatch it up, but a quick “hey man” will make him stop in his tracks with your stolen sammich. As for being destructive other than small electronics that his foster dad failed to secure properly, he has aided in the unscheduled destuffing of some outdoor pillows, put some trademark teeth imprints in a couple of shoes, and decided to put some ventilation holes in some socks. These actions have all been due to humans not securing and supervising properly. He is a puppy after all!
Sawyer would thrive in a home where his people can spend time with him, although he has not shown any signs of separation anxiety, he would just vibe a lot better around his people rather than being left home if you work long hours. Another playful dog in the home would be awesome for him and help him with his confidence and in learning how to dog properly. We think he would be fine with older children in the home. This boy is a gem, so if you are interested in Sawyer please apply!
