Sage is the biggest lover while simultaneously being protective, loyal, and always ready to work. She is an incredibly well-balanced dog who only wants to please the people she loves. She’s highly intelligent and in-tune with her people and surroundings, giving her the innate ability to know how to get your attention and tell you things without being obnoxious. Sage is a bit of a clown and always needs to have a toy in her mouth. This is pretty inconvenient when she’s trying to get a drink, so she simply drops her toy in the water dish and then picks it back up when she’s done drinking!

Sage is generally friendly, but is aloof towards strangers, especially males. She will go up and happily engage depending on the person and situation. She has never shown any inappropriate aggression, or reactivity. With visitors to the home, she warms up after a couple of interactions. However, Sage is more interested in what her handler or foster brother is doing and will take any opportunity to roll over for a belly rub or lay her head in your lap. Once she collects her pets, she happily lays back down to continue her nap.

While meeting some dogs on-leash she can exhibit dominant humping behavior and be quite intense. Off-leash, Sage loves to play and roughhouse with other neutral dogs of similar size. Due to her extreme prey drive, a home free of cats, small dogs, and children under 12 is required. She will need a secure yard and a skilled handler to manage her obsessive desire to chase anything small and continue to build the foundation her foster has created. She does respond well to the e-collar and prong collar with a strong correction but remains vigilant until she’s had some time to be re-directed and out of their general vicinity.

Sage is potty trained, crate trained, rides well in the car, is well-mannered at the vets’ office, and curious but recovers quickly by loud noises. Sage has mastered many basic and intermediate skills and working on becoming proficient in many more advanced ones. She is generally curious about new situations and checks in for reassurance. For motivation, food works well if you want to keep her calmer, a squeaky tennis ball on a rope is her go-to if you want to really get her working. Her ball drive is stellar, as is her love of tug!

Sage is a very busy girl and must kenneled when not supervised or when she is overstimulated. She will explore any area and take things not meant for her, like the trash, counters, clothes, shoes, etc.  Her ideal home would be active with an owner who has the time and desire to train her every day to do a job and who also loves having a dog there to share all life’s adventures with. With her intelligence, desire to work, extreme ball and prey drive, she would be an excellent candidate for any sport that engages her body and mind.
