Rye is the sweetest, snuggliest, biggest love you will ever meet. He adores his person unconditionally, always wants to be next to you and involved in what you are doing and aims to please. This fun-loving Velcro pup will jump up ready to follow you at the slightest indication of a new task or outing. Between play sessions with other dogs, he will put his head in your lap and look up at you with such sweetness that your heart will melt. This boy hasn’t seen a bad day and has an incredible zest for life!

The best way to describe him is affectionate, playful, persistent – and with an off-switch! Rye is driven by praise and loves to be told he is a good boy. He would do well in a home with another big dog or 2 that match his play style. Rye also loves a good mental workout and will work diligently to get every morsel out of his Kong or another food puzzle. Once he is satisfied with the play and attention he has received; he is content to lay at your feet and relax. He had done well visiting busy breweries or coffee shops and will settle down quickly as you enjoy your visit.

Rye has mastered his basic obedience and is working on more advanced skills and remaining relaxed and focused when he sees a new dog he wants to be friends with. He is crate trained, does well at the vet, and rides nicely while crated in the car. In his foster home there is a cat that he is VERY interested in it but recalls off of her when he starts to chase her and never acts aggressive. He has impaired vision in his right eye so his new owner will need to be mindful that he lacks depth perception. He is such an easy boy to fall in love with and his medical issues don't stop him at all!

Rye’s perfect home would be willing to shower him with love and be able to provide plenty of opportunities to use his brain and for lower-impact physical activities. Rye was likely hit by a car before coming into the rescue, so his new family needs to ensure he maintains a healthy weight and provides joint support via dietary supplementation. He is also being evaluated by an orthopedic specialist to explore potential surgical options. If he qualifies, his person will need to be willing to keep up with his rehab and exercises as he continues on his healing journey. With his desire to please and love of using his nose, Nosework and rally may be sports he would enjoy and excel in.
