Panko is a sweet, affectionate, social butterfly who craves attention. He has not met a person he doesn’t love after taking a brief moment to warm up – kind of like the checker at your local grocery store! He’ll melt at your feet for tummy scratches and will crawl in your lap if given the chance.
He is handler-focused and will almost always choose to leave what he’s doing to come interact with you. He’s confident and relaxed on outings and would really thrive being an active dog with an owner that wants to include him in lots of activities. On a visit to the feed store, Panko was well-behaved and made friends right and left. Men, women, kids - he loves everyone. He even tucked himself under the legs of two Girl Scouts for several minutes, totally content to lay there and be pet by his new friends.
Panko enjoys playing with the two male dogs in his foster home and when passing dogs on walks he shows interest in wanting to play but does not bark or otherwise react. His rougher play style may not be appreciated by all dogs, but he acknowledges their boundaries. Panko is interested and respectful of the horses in his foster home and is also fairly respectful of the cats in the home. With proper introductions and management, he would be able to live in a home with dog-savvy cats that know not to run away.
Panko is crate trained, potty trained, rides well in the car, is well-mannered at the vets’ office, and is unfazed by loud noises. He has mastered most of his basic skills and is working to become proficient in more. He is motivated most by food and praise, needing simple verbal or leash correction only. He is still a puppy and when can jump up and engage in some nipping behavior, so continued work to provide proper boundaries and structure is required for his success. He has shown no signs of resource-guarding behavior regarding his food or toys.
Panko would do best in a calmer, but active household where he has a structured routine to help him avoid becoming over-stimulated. He loves kids, but due to the jumping up and nipping behavior, he would do best with older kids that are confident around dogs. He would love to have playful, friendly dog siblings but would also do well as an only dog. With his amazing handler focus, athleticism, and eagerness to please, he may enjoy some light sports like agility, rally, or nosework. Panko is just waiting to be your best friend, cuddle buddy and adventure partner!
