MARTY
~DOB: 2/1/2018
Gender: Male
Weight: 70lbs
Energy Level: Moderate
Overall Drive: no toy drive, moderate food drive, and high prey drive.
Location: Sedro Woolley, WA
Marty is a big confident cuddle bug that is constantly sneaking his head under your hand. He can be a chill couch potato or an adventure buddy ready for some low-key action. He loves lounging around and is content with a relaxed afternoon as much as going on walks, sniffing around the yard or hitting the lake for a swim. Marty absolutely adores people and thrives on cuddles and pets. He enjoys being the center of attention and may experience slight separation anxiety or fear of missing out (FOMO) when left alone. His affectionate nature means he will quickly become a loving member of the family, always ready to provide comfort and companionship. He is a super chill and calm dog when indoors, making him a great option for a peaceful home environment.
Marty is wonderful with kids over 8 and loves playing with other dogs which makes him an excellent option for a lower key family companion. His gentle and tolerant nature ensures he gets along well with everyone in the household and with his friendly demeanor he is always happy to meet new people and make new friends. At 6 years old, he has a mature and steady temperament and while he may not be the quickest learner, his consistent and dependable nature is both reliable and predictable.
He has a strong, confident, and independent spirit, which means he can be a bit stubborn at times. He is also physically strong, so his new family must be willing to provide clear boundaries and structure for his ongoing success. Due to his high prey drive he requires a home free of small animals. Livestock can be hit or miss, Rabbits, chickens and other small animals trigger a prey drive response that can be hard to control and redirect. Larger animals (horses, deer, goats) do not bother him and at most he will just stare as he walks past.
Marty is potty trained, crate trained, well-mannered at the vets’ office, non-destructive in the home. Loud noises may startle him causing a bark or two, but he recovers quickly. He can be antsy and vocal in the car, so a crate is best for everyone’s safety. He is working on his basic commands, but Marty presents unique challenges when it comes to training. He learns at a slower pace and can be stubborn at times, preferring his own pace over quick commands. However, what makes training Marty rewarding is his eagerness to please. Despite his slower learning curve, he shows genuine enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. Patience and positive reinforcement techniques work best with Marty, as he responds well to encouragement and rewards. With consistent training and a supportive approach, Marty will continue to gradually grasp new commands and behaviors.
Marty is looking for a moderately active home that is willing to continue his training and would be a good match for someone who enjoys outdoor activities that wants a dog to keep up with their short/local adventures as Marty’s marathon days are past him. He’d love a big backyard to romp in with his dog friends, and older kids would be great too! So, if you are looking for a mature, loving guy that will greet you with the biggest toothy smiles and plenty of Malinois clacking, then Marty is a perfect match. The cherry on top for Marty would be if you even let him snuggle on the bed!
