ABOUT LANI

~DOB: 02/01/2020

Weight: 50 pounds

Energy Level: Low

Overall Drive: Moderate

Location: Olympia, WA

Lani is a kind and gentle soul that had an extremely rough start to life and is looking for a calm, loving, and predictable home. She is smart as a whip, very motivated, and very trainable. If you need someone to fetch a ball for you from sun up to sun down, this is your forever partner! If Lani had a human job she would be the team captain for the US Womens National Soccer Team by day, and a burlesque dancer by night. Quite the combo in one!

She can be fairly cautious and reserved when meeting men due to suspected trauma earlier in life. Her wonky ear comes from an embedded collar that had to be removed, so her ear is much like a UFC fighter's ear aka cauliflower ear. Lani is comfortable around women and willing to let men earn her trust over time. She is excellent with other dogs regardless of size or gender. Lani has not been introduced to children or cats; she does not show signs of over-the-top prey drive so she may do fine with slow, controlled introductions and supervision.

During her time in foster, it has been found that she will alert bark at the doorbell or knock at the door, but it is all show. This girl is a lover, not a fighter, and shows no aggression at all so a pet home would be fitting. Additionally, if there are visitors over at her foster's house she does not mind them unless they are men and then she will keep her distance. During car rides she is calm, but not a fan as she will sit and shake until the rode is over. Some of the other things her foster has noted are that she will take loud noises in stride as long as there is a buffer of space between her and the noise. On the other hand, there are objects around the house that terrify her, mop/broom/any long-reaching object she will cower and start shaking. This has gotten better over time with her foster mom but continues to happen with her foster dad when he is doing house chores.

Lani has mastered Sit, Leave It, Load Up, and Crate commands. Other commands still in work are Here, Stay, and Place. She is not destructive but due to her intelligence, she could become destructive without some sort of mental stimulation during the day such as kibble puzzles, or hidden treats to find. Her house training is perfect, no accidents in the home since arriving. Counter-surfing might be an issue if she was given the opportunity, but this has yet to happen while in foster.

Lani is looking for a forever home with a loving woman who will let her snuggle in bed at night and in the morning. She does great with a high-activity household and other dogs, but she does enjoy some quiet one on one time with her human. A secure yard and another confident but neutral dog to play with would be perfect. So if you are looking for a girl that loves fetching and snuggling, Lani is the one for you!
