Lani is a kind and gentle soul who had an extremely rough start to life and is looking for a calm forever home. She is smart as a whip, very motivated, and very trainable. She loves to be in her Zen place just hanging out with her human on the porch watching the world go by. She continues to amaze us with the incredible amount of progress she has made in her loving foster home.
If Lani had a human job she would be a Jungian therapist by day, and a burlesque dancer by night. Quite the combo in one! She can be very cautious and reserved when meeting men due to trauma earlier in life. She can be quite cautious and reserved when meeting men due to probable trauma earlier in life. Her wonky ear comes from an unknown injury, so her ear is much like a UFC fighter's ear aka cauliflower ear. . Lani is comfortable, sassy, feels free around women, and will follow her human accordingly. She is good on a leash and shows zero issues with small children, other dogs, and passers-by during walks.
She is excellent with other dogs regardless of size or gender. During her time in foster care, it has been found that she will alert bark at the doorbell, or knock at the door, but it is all for show. #BigDogWoof This girl is a lover, not a fighter, and shows no aggression at all so a multiple-pet home would be fitting. Additionally, if there are visitors over at her foster's house, she does not mind them unless they are men and then she politely excuses herself from the area and keeps her distance. During car rides, she is calm, quiet, and polite. She will accept loud noises in stride as long as there is a buffer of space between her and the noise. If the noise is coming from a man, she looks to her person for reassurance that they are not a bad person and will carry on. Lani has gained much confidence around brooms/mops, and any reaching object. She used to be terrified of them but now she only gets spooked if they appear too quickly or if she is approached with one quickly.
Lani has mastered her basic commands and is working on more advanced skills. She is not destructive but due to her intelligence, she could become destructive without some sort of mental stimulation during the day such as kibble puzzles, or hidden treats to find. Lani will make you laugh every day by trying to jump over the moon when her ball comes out for playtime and her 6 am early morning snuggle fest or when her upright ear peeks up over the kitchen island like the shark fin in the movie Jaws whenever there is food around like she is stalking it.
Lani is looking for a forever home with woman as her main handler but could do well if there was a patient and loving man in the home committed to taking things at her pace and gaining her trust. She does great with a high-activity household and other dogs, but she enjoys some human one-on-one time especially snuggling in bed. A solid large secure yard and maybe another dog to play with would be ideal for this special pup. If you are looking for a girl who loves fetch and snuggling, Lani is the one for you!

Transport along Interstate 5 (Rowland Heights, CA to Edmonds, WA) is available but cost not included in adoption fee.
