ABOUT ALYSSA

~DOB: 10/1/2020

Weight: 50 pounds

Energy Level: High

Overall Drive: High

Location: Nine Mile Falls, WA

Alyssa is one of the sweetest dogs that we have had the pleasure of rescuing, she absolutely will not pass up some snuggles at any time of the day.  This lady loves people and if there is a toy around you better be prepared to play non-stop.  Overall, she is a high-energy, high drive people-pleasing machine!

If Alyssa was a human, her foster thinks that she would be one of those high alpine sheep or goat shepherds as she is always watchful and loves to herd things.  It would be hard to tell upon first meeting her, but she is actually a lap dog disguised as a 50 pound Malinois. #IfIFitsISits  She is friendly with dogs that are her size but has very high prey drive so will require a home free of  cats, small dogs, and livestock.  If allowed, she would probably chase small things that look like prey until she passes out from exhaustion.  Perhaps a career in barn hunt is in her future?

Alyssa rides well in the car and is always crated for her safety in case of an accident. #NoDogMissileHazardsHere  At her vet’s office visit she was cordial with the staff and their handling, as well as polite to the other animals there.  Loud noises do not faze her, as she could care less about the noise of the outside world.  There is a derpy side to this ball of energy as well, she loves pouncing on her toys and making all sorts of goofy faces while playing.  As for playing, she loves in the following order ball, tug, chew.  So, if you have something that resembles a ball that can be tugged on and chewed Alyssa would be over the moon!

When Alyssa came into foster, she was rather obnoxious in her crate, but since then she has mellowed out and has started to enjoy her crate and will go in there when asked.  For correction a stern “no” usually suffices and she may need some reminders to reinforce wanted behaviors. She is house-trained and has not shown bad habits in the home.  As for bad habits, she does enjoy chewing on the leash from time to time and will “angry” chew her blanket in her crate if she is “protesting” being in her crate. Alyssa has mastered No and Mine commands, she also has been broken from jumping on people when entering the home as she was pretty kangaroo-ish early on.  Alyssa is working on her other basics, recall, and not reacting to small critters.

Alyssa is looking for a forever home that can continue her training, and provide structure and routine around meals, playing, and time with her person.  Being a high drive and high-energy dog, Alyssa does not self-entertain well so she needs an outlet for all that energy.  A home without small kids would probably be for the best unless they are high drive/energy dog savvy.
