Meet Hector – Your Next Adventure Buddy!

Age: 6 years | Weight: 73.6 lbs | Location: Pleasant Hill, CA

Energy Level: Moderate | Overall Drive: High

If you’re looking for a loyal, go-anywhere, do-anything partner who will be by your side through thick and thin, Hector is your guy. Whether you’re lounging on the couch or tackling a 10-mile hike, Hector is all in—as long as he’s with you. A big-hearted companion with a strong work ethic, he brings devotion, drive, and a little goofy charm wherever he goes.

With a high drive and moderate energy, Hector is the kind of dog who would probably be a Search and Rescue handler if he were human—intensely focused, ready to work, and always excited to tackle the next challenge. He’s deeply affectionate, preferring lap cuddles over personal space, and has a nose for adventure (and squirrels). His determination can lead to some hilarious moments—like launching himself headfirst into bushes because he thought he heard something move.

Hector is well-socialized with people and greets strangers enthusiastically (sometimes a little too enthusiastically—he’s working on that!). He’s crate-trained and house-trained, and while he’s not destructive in the house, he has a deep passion for dismantling squeaky toys. He does need slow introductions to other dogs and would thrive with an experienced owner who understands high-drive behavior. Small animals? Not a good idea. Cats, rodents, birds, or even horses are all a little too exciting for Hector.

He rides calmly in the car and is a champ at the vet, though he can get overstimulated in crowded waiting rooms. Loud noises can make him uneasy, but he recovers quickly. He’s highly food-motivated, learning commands like “Leave It,” “Slow,” and “Stay,” and responds well to a firm voice and clear boundaries.
Hector is looking for an active, dog-savvy home—preferably with a big heart, a good sense of humor, and no small pets. He could live with another well-matched dog, and he’ll thrive with structure, training, and lots of love.

Are you ready for a loyal companion who’s always down for an adventure—and a cuddle afterward? Hector’s waiting.
