Gooby is a loyal, smart, athletic, protective, and goofy companion. Once you win her over, she is the most loving and sweet dog you’ll ever meet.
If Gooby was a human, she would be a bounty hunter! She is extremely motivated to go after lizards, gophers, squirrels, and coyotes around the home. Gooby is very protective and confident; she will stick by your side 24/7 and being around her person brings her the most joy possible. The other thing she loves is playing fetch, make sure you have 2 balls since she is still learning to give the first one back in exchange for throwing it. #JustTakeNoGive Training is a breeze with her as she is extremely food-motivated! Overall, she is eager to please and be loved, and she is the perfect welcoming party at home after a long day of work.
Gooby loves car rides and loads right up. She goes right into the vet’s office like she owns the place and loud noises do not seem to bother her too much, as she has been through some major storms and the 4th of July with zero issues. If strangers come over or she sees them out in public they do not bother her at all, her recent trip to Home Depot proved that as she just walked on through the place like she was a frequent visitor. At home, she will alert and bark at strangers, but if placed in her crate when they arrive and then let her out after they are in the house, she is much more responsive to them. Her previous owner had small children and her foster has an 11-month-old who she does well with. With the resident male dog, she gets along wonderfully, but will fence fight the neighbor's female dog, which the neighbor dog has been known to do with other dogs. Due to her high prey and hunt drive a home free of small fuzzy or feathered animals is required.
During her time in foster, she has mastered the following commands Sit, Paw (mono), and Down. She is currently working on her Recall, Stay, and Drop it commands. In the house, she usually doesn’t bark unless there is something outside. But she is for sure a trash can raider and counter surfer, so those are naughty habits that will need to be corrected. Additionally, she has been a digger in the dirt, which her foster does not mind but if you have a well-manicured yard you might want to keep a sharp eye on her so she doesn’t uproot your prized turf. As for toys, she will destroy a stuffed toy in 0.1 seconds flat, but she thoroughly enjoys toys! Gooby is crate trained which is where she sleeps every night and goes in willingly, however she may also enjoy sharing your bed.
Gooby is looking for an active forever home that would love to involve her in all of their daily activities. She will need someone to set her up for success with clear boundaries, structure, and balanced physical and mental exercise. A home that is free from chaos and has infrequent visitors is best as she enjoys a small pack that she trusts. With her desire to please and high drive she might enjoy sports such as rally, scent work, or barn hunt. So, if you need a good dose of a goobery girl like Gooby in your life, please apply today!
