If you are looking for your ultimate ride or die companion, Figo is it. Once he settles in with his person, he is content to do whatever they are doing, as long as he can be with them. He is devoted, loving and wants nothing more than to be by the side of his chosen person

Figo is a wonderful old soul.  He is cautious, introverted, observant, curious, shy, discerning, clean, but mostly a love sponge. Figo takes his time warming up to people and figuring out if he can trust them.  Once he has decided you are worthy, you have a dog who is loyal and loving to the nth degree. Figo is sensitive to the emotions of his person and reacts in a loving and supportive way. When his person is happy, he is happy and wants to be involved in the joy. When his person is sad, he becomes extra loving and snuggly.  He is a calm, quiet and comforting presence in the home.

Figo’s preference is to not be seen or heard if he doesn’t know you. Kids terrify him and he distrusts and avoids strangers. Figo seems to not really care about other animals and gets along fine with his fosters older female dog. He doesn’t care for puppies or dominant male personalities. He doesn’t exhibit prey drive when seeing cats or small wildlife, he just quietly observes where they are and then goes on about his business.

Figo rides well in the car and has been unphased by loud noises outside the home. With his sensitivity to touch by strangers he is terrified, but well-mannered at the vets’ office. Slow exams, muzzling, and pre-medicating has helped him feel more comfortable. Figo has mastered all his basic commands aside from down. He refuses to even attempt to go into a down and his foster has not pressured him to do so as working on this specific command seems to erode the trust he has built.

He is motivated most by praise and only requires gentle verbal correction. Figo is an extremely well-mannered and respectful dog. He is housebroken, kennels quietly with a little coaxing in using some cookies, does not counter surf or get into the trash. He is calm, observant and his foster hasn’t even heard him bark.

Figo has taken a considerable amount of time warming up to and even longer building very fragile trust.  It is imperative for Figo to find his true forever home where his person will cherish and protect the trust Figo will place in his person and keep him for the rest of his life.  If Figo is given back it will likely be highly detrimental to him. Figo’s ideal home will be all the things he is – calm, quiet, predictable, and respectful. Figo very much would love a home with some moderate activity.  Daily walks, weekend hikes, evening couch snuggling, and sharing your bed are the ingredients to his success and happiness.
