ABOUT SPENCER

Age: Approximately 9 years
Gender: Male
Weight: 55 pounds
Energy Level: Low
Overall Drive: Low
Location: Santa Clarita, CA

Spencer is a gem of a dog who wants to be near you, always. He is very biddable and flexible and is as comfortable playing as he is settling down for some petting while you watch TV and relax. He loves to get his energy out bouncing around outside but will always check in with his person, especially if you have a bag of treats.

Spencer will bark with joy when you come home, but a guard dog he is not as strangers are his friends! He can be initially reserved in new environments but looks to his handler for guidance as he comes to know you. Consistent routine and frequent treats are the way to earn his trust, he wants nothing more than to interact and connect with his person. He is cautious when meeting other dogs, especially males, but warms up with time to slowly interact with them in a protected environment. Spencer travels well in the car, is cooperative and friendly at the veterinarian’s office, and doesn’t mind loud noises. He does struggle with some resource guarding over his food, and will need calm reassurance that he can trust you. Spencer is crate trained but prefers a larger kennel to his crate if given the option. He has had limited obedience training and will need some work polishing up the basics with his new family.

The perfect home for Spencer would be one with at least one adult male person, as Spencer is most comfortable around men. He would do best as an only dog or with a calm female canine companion. He is easy to please and only requires a bit of some running or a few games of fetch to keep him happy. Ultimately, he wants affection and to be adored in a home where he is safe with people he can trust. Grab a bag of treats, a ball for a game of fetch and welcome Spencer into your life – you won’t regret it!
