Sockeye is a wonderful dog! He is affectionate, goofy, and easy going. His bouncy play and the way he pushes his head into your laps for hugs will melt you. He is socially appropriate and a pleasure to be around. He plays well with other dogs at home and settles well when it’s time to rest.

If Sockeye were a human, he would work at the post office in the mail room. He is a reliable guy, but is honest about his skills, and would want to leave the 9-5 behind at the end of the day and go relax with his family. This guy would be happy to work a good stable job rather than strive for promotions and working his way to the top.

Sockeye is a confident, sweet guy who prefers his family over anything. He can be energetic and playful if the invitation presents itself but is otherwise a mellow dog who prefers to sit back and relax. He is very neutral with strangers, is neither afraid nor compelled to interact with them. He shows some interest in greeting other dogs when out and about but ignores them when asked to. While he has been neutral around dogs in his foster home, he has shown some interest in other small animals and livestock. His new family should be sure they are cautious in his interactions with both.

Car rides are no problem for this relaxed guy, but he does have trouble with thunderstorms, which he prefers to ride out inside the home while listening to the noise of his fan. Sockeye is a great hiking companion, and isn’t phased by much out in the woods, either. While he doesn’t have a lot of drive- food or toy, he responds to gentle corrections and has behaved well in the home aside from the occasional glance toward the kitchen counters. High value food will help him focus for short training sessions, but then he needs a nap to recharge. He is working on crate training and will not occasionally just vocalize briefly or paw at the door and needs some additional encouragement when crossing household thresholds.

Ultimately, Sockeye would be best suited for a moderately active family looking for a companion to share in their adventures. He enjoys getting out for walks and long hikes but settles at home as well. He is a social dog who connects with humans and prefers to be with them. Solid fencing with a minimum of 6’ height and constant yard supervision are required.

This dog can’t wait to make a splash in the hearts of his new family!

West Coast adoptions only, HOWEVER, if application is strong we may consider placement in other Western US states.

Our adoption process includes- completion of an application, followed by a telephone interview. If that goes well, we will arrange for a home visit.

Adoption Donation: $400.00

Transport along Interstate 5 (Bakersfield, CA to Bellingham, WA) is available but cost not included in adoption fee.

For all inquiries, please fill out our adoption application first, as the volunteer answering emails is probably not the coordinator for the specific foster home/dog.
