ABOUT SAILOR
DOB: Approx. 7/2021
Gender: Male
Weight: 75lbs
Energy Level: High
Overall Drive: Moderate (High Prey)
Location: Vancouver, WA
Sailor wants to be involved with whatever you're doing and he'll do it with the upmost enthusiasm! He has been socially appropriate to strangers and children.
Sailor is fully outdoor kennel-trained, crate trained, rides well in the car, has a solid recall "here", "sit" and "leave it" and "down" . He will sit and wait nicely to be released out of doorways and to eat his meals. He has made a lot of progress on leash manners, and walks best and takes corrections well on a prong collar. Sailor is still working on "heel" and a longer "wait". He is generally non-destructive. He is also pretty quiet, that is until the UPS man comes.
Sailor bonds closely to his person, but because of his adolescence, will occasionally try to push his boundaries. Once a good relationship is established he is loving, loyal and biddable. He has been "working" for his meals at least once a day and is doing great with positive reinforcement/shaping behaviors. He is eager to please and truly wants to be a good guy! He is also making huge progress on ignoring other dogs, poultry and livestock. He has been socially appropriate to strangers and children.
The ideal home for Sailor would be a strong handler that embraces his fun and spastic personality, but will also set firm boundaries and rules as to not allow him to "run the show". He does have a HUGE prey drive and will plow through blackberries to catch a whiff of a rat or rabbit. Barn-hunt could be fun, could also be dangerous. A home with cats and other small animals is definitely not recommended.
