Ryker is an incredibly fun and affectionate dog who just wants to be part of the family! He will self-entertain with his Jolly Ball for hours, but he is always looking to his handler for attention. If he were a human, he would be a soldier – he has tons of energy that he can focus to almost any task.

Ryker is cautiously friendly to human strangers and is protective of what he perceives as his (in his foster home, this is his yard and kennel). He will need a handler willing to reinforce boundaries related to proper introductions and when to engage his protective side. Ryker is neutral with female dogs but doesn’t do well with dogs who are overly energetic or in his face or with male dogs. He will need to be closely monitored and have controlled introductions when meeting any other animals. Ryker rides well in the car, is fully crate trained, has mastered basic obedience, and is working on more advanced commands such as down stay. He has behaved well in his foster home and has not shown any destructive behaviors. Ryker has high ball drive which makes him a quick study when it comes to learning new things. He can be noise sensitive, so a home that is secure with a sturdy minimum 6-8 foot fence is a must.

This animated, motivated guy would be a great match for a sporting or working home. He will need a handler willing to continue to build his confidence and understand his need for continued growth. Ryker isn’t a big fan of other dogs but may do well in a home with a relaxed female dog, but he is likely not willing to be a playmate. Ryker’s drive and focus makes him an ideal candidate for PSA, or Competition Obedience, should his new handler be interested. This affectionate boy is just learning how good life can be when you spend it with the right person – could you be who he is looking for?
