ABOUT PETRA

Gender: Female

Weight: 56 lbs

Energy Level: Moderate

Overall Drive: Moderate

Location: Long Beach, California

Health issues: Slight limp and decreased range of motion in right front from an old fracture.

This social butterfly is ready to please! Petra is a smart girl ready to play and learn new tricks. If she had a job, she’d be a firefighter or policeman because she’s a team player and great at using her eyes and nose. She’ll be happy to make you giggle as she rolls around on any available carpet and makes the funniest noises! She also loves to chase and play with water!

Petra is a spirited and sweet cuddle bug who will never let you feel lonely. She occasionally barks at the sound of someone at the door (knock, doorbell, etc.) but is really friendly upon meeting new people at home or out and about. She can be a bit particular when meeting new dogs, but proper introduction and supervision will help her warm up faster. She has a history of being reactive towards other dogs on occasion, but it has gotten better. With her foster, she only occasionally reacts to small or barking dogs but can be told to “leave it”. She does have moderate prey drive but can be called off. Has shown interest in cats, so a cat-free home is best.

Petra is very motivated by meaty treats and knows her basic commands along with shake, eat, crate, kiss, and playing hide and seek! She is working on leave it, drop it, bring it and leash walking. She is house-trained, but not reliably crate-trained. Without enough exercise or something to keep her busy in her crate, she will tear up her bed and may try to break out of her crate. She has been left uncrated and alone without issues– but may assume anything yummy at a low level or in the trash is meant for her!

Petra would fit in a busy home with people who can dedicate a good chunk of daily time to her. This could include a family with older kids and/or neutral doggy siblings after making sure they are introduced properly. She would love her human(s) to always invite people over because the more the merrier!

She may be a candidate for low-key sports like rally or barn hunt and would love nothing more than to provide emotional support due to her trainability and love of people.

West Coast adoptions only, HOWEVER, if application is strong we may consider placement in other Western US states.

Our adoption process includes- completion of an application, followed by a telephone interview. If that goes well, we will arrange for a home visit.

Adoption Donation: $500.00

Transport along Interstate 5 (Bakersfield, CA to Bellingham, WA) is available but cost not included in adoption fee.

For all inquiries, please fill out our adoption application first, as the volunteer answering emails is probably not the coordinator for the specific foster home/dog.

Thank you for visiting The Woof Project!
