Nitro is a young energetic boy who would thrive with an experienced handler. He is eager to please and wants to learn! He came to his foster home with minimal training and experience being a pet, but is learning quickly how to be the best boy. He loves his foster mom and dad and wants nothing more than to snuggle with them all the time. He can get a bit excited when trying to get his snuggles so he is still working on keeping calm and learning boundaries. He is thriving in a well-structured home. He is still easily excitable so slow, structured exposure to new situations would be best. He shows promise in the obedience/ Structured dog sports world and would make a great working dog. He needs someone who can continue to work on his training to be a successful family member. He is just a big, beautiful, young boy who needs someone willing to help teach him how to be his best. He currently is crate trained, place trained, knows sit, down, stay, out (drop it), and out of the kitchen. He is working on walking nicely on leash and in heel. He loves to play with all kinds of toys. He has a great tug and solid grip, loves to play fetch, and loves to get the stuffing out of his toys! He is very food motivated in training!
He is currently being fostered in a home with a very dog-savvy cat who has no problem teaching him her boundaries and two other dogs. He has shown no aggression to other dogs in his home and is quite submissive in any altercations, but is excited to see other dogs when out on a leash. When unsure of rules and overstimulated, he has nipped at his handler, therefore he is not recommended for a home with children. However as he has grown in understanding his expectations in the home, this behavior has diminished. He also has shown signs of food aggression but does well being hand-fed or just fed in his crate. He will wait for food and gently take treats.
He is high energy, and high Drive, so an experienced working dog home is a requirement.
