Meet Ms. Myrtle, a low-key ray of sunshine who shines so bright! This girl loves walks, trips in the car (as long as it’s not to the vet), lots of pets from her favorite person, and most of all her bed. The perfect mix of calm, sweet, and adorable, just waiting for the family who will spoil her the way she deserves.

If she were a human, Myrtle would be a detective. On walks or hikes her hound-like nose barely leaves the ground but not to worry, she won’t even slow a power-walker down! Once comfortable in her surroundings, she loves to investigate and search out the next adventure. Myrtle does well with other dogs and has always been extremely friendly and eager to meet them as long as her person is by her side. She is intimidated by large or dominant dogs and fearful of human strangers who approach too quickly. However, with proper introductions she gets along well with most she meets. Myrtle would love nothing more than to give chase to the neighborhood squirrels and would likely be tempted to chase cats and other small animals. Although she has had no issues passing children at play, a home with no children or older children is preferred.

Myrtle has a very low threshold for stress and if she is overstimulated or feels she is not performing well, she will retreat to her bed for some space. This has made training a bit challenging, as she is only minimally motivated by gentle praise. Food and toys hold no value for her. The silver lining to this is that aside from some pulling when she sees a squirrel, she has no bad habits.

Myrtle would do best in a calm, quiet household as a simple companion, with or without another dog. If she shares a home with another dog, care must be taken to ensure she maintains her personal things (bed/toys) as she is hyper submissive and will not ask for them back. She needs plenty of opportunities for at least 2 walks per day and an owner who is willing to be her support system. Myrtle has had an extremely rough life and while the physical scars will always be present, an understanding, loving and patient person will help her continue to blossom and heal the emotional ones her own pace.
