When asked “who is Mooney and what is he like?”, the response is often a 60-pound Malinois made of glue that just wants to be stuck to you. If you want to go to the kitchen, Mooney will escort you. What about going to bed at night, turn around and boom there is Mooney. He is everywhere his human is, Mooney the human shadow.
If this youngster had a job what would he be? The answer is obvious, your personal assistant! Up bright and early at 6 am to let you know the sun is up and it is time for the day #MooneyTheRoosterDog. He is often noted as needing to get his morning zoomies out of the way before settling in at his foster's feet while they enjoy their coffee. So if you need an alarm clock or you are an early riser Mooney might be the fella for you! Additionally, due to his young age, he is a boundary tester. These actions are nipped in the bud by a firm verbal correction and then he falls into line.
Mooney loves to go on car rides! He will hang his head out the window to let the passing wind blow around his face. Warming up to strangers that come into his home is a strong suit for him and he seems to love anyone that is willing to pet him until their arms fall off. There is not much drive in this young man other than wanting affection and making sure his human is happy. He will work for treats during obedience time but has very little ball/toy drive. There have been sparks of prey drive in his interest in small animals such as birds and rodents. In public, he can be a little scatterbrained but responds quickly to a light prong collar correction. #ButIJustWantToSayHiToEveryone.
Mooney has mastered the following commands during his time in foster Sit and Wait. Commands that are still being worked on are his recall, and crating (can be a little hard-headed). Crate training has been an “adventure”, he will reluctantly go in his crate but it is not his “happy place” as it is for some dogs. He doesn’t really have any bad habits, he just doesn’t know a lot of boundaries so his foster has been helping reinforce them during his time there. He enjoys biting water from the sprinklers but has never broken one before.
Mooney would do best in a home where he can be with his people, have at least one other dog friend to play with, and not have to be crated for an extended period of time, possibly someone that works from home. He gets his zoomies out the first time in the morning and before bed at night, the between time he is charging his batteries by snoozing away on the floor. So if you are looking for a shadow in the form of a Malinois, you already found your man with Mooney.
