Mills is a very laid-back dog who loves nothing more than a lazy afternoon on the couch. However, he also has a playful side. If he were a human, he would be a construction worker; he loves to build relationships and isn’t afraid of a little hard work to get what he wants.

Mills can be reserved and quiet, especially when indoors, but will always come running for affection when he is called by name. He has done well outside his home when he is focused on his work, however he can be nervous when in new public places. Mills prefers slow introductions to new people and will need some positive reinforcement from his handler when he feels unsure. Like humans, Mills does best with other dogs when given the opportunity to get to know them on his terms. Because of his drive, Mills will need a home without cats, small animals (including small dogs), and younger children. He rides well in the car, is cautious at the veterinarian’s office, and handles loud noises if his person is nearby to reassure him. Mills has mastered basic obedience and is currently working on building his confidence; he will need a handler willing to continue encouraging him to come out of his shell. He has great house manners and doesn’t intrude on personal space, even when there might be food he is interested in on his humans’ plates!

Given his need for confidence building and his quiet nature, Mills would do best in a home with low activity and stimulus. He would make a great companion or family dog and would be a good hiking or running partner. Don’t let his shyness fool you, Mills is always ready to show up for his person!
