Macau is friendly, loyal, playful, watchful – the kind of guy who sticks by your side and is content to just be with you. He is so eager for a person of his own and no matter whether you’re playing a game of fetch, hiking, or just chilling on the couch, he will be your best friend through it all!

Macau has never met a stranger, loves butt scratches and cuddles, and is so endearing when he tries to hold hands with his person. He is very family oriented, likes to keep his people together and thrives on consistency and order so his new home will need to be free from chaos. He’s neutral with large dogs and larger livestock, with proper introductions and would likely enjoy another neutral dog friend of similar size. With his high prey drive he requires a home free of kids or animals of any species under 40 pounds.

Macau is potty trained, crate trained, and has mastered many basic commands. He is motivated by food and his ball and responds well to praise and leash pressure which makes training a breeze. Although he isn’t a huge fan of car rides, he jumps right in, but will bark. He MUST be crated for travel and will settle quietly for long trips. When visiting the vet, he does best with his handler present offering support and will need a vet that will take their time. He may need to be muzzled as he can be a bit suspicious. Macau is not an alarm barker in general and will likely not tell you when your Amazon order arrives. However, loud/startling noises make him bark defensively taking a few minutes to recover.

Macau would thrive as someone’s ride or die, and his ideal home would be in the country where his person is home often. His lower energy requirements are met with a couple walks or some games of fetch, and a training session or two each day. With his love of using his nose, his prey drive, and problem-solving abilities, he may enjoy scentwork or herding.
