Lake wants to hold your hand! This affectionate girl prefers to lean on her person whenever possible and is ready for almost anything. If she were a human, Lake would be a teenage girl: wants to hang out with you, bossy, a little needy when it comes to her parents (handler), but doesn’t want you to be in her face.

Lake can be shy and needs slow introductions to strangers, but once she’s had the time to warm up, she can handle most social situations with ease. She isn’t bothered by the commotion of parks or stores unless a stranger or a strange dog invades her space. Lake has done well with meeting new people in her foster home’s yard but isn’t as comfortable with introductions inside her home. Lake rides well in the car in a crate as she can be reactive to pedestrians, shows interest in loud noises but is not afraid of them, and she loves to chew on treats and toys. She will require a muzzle when visiting the veterinarian’s office and will need slow, careful, introductions to the doctors and technicians. Lake would do best in a home without other dogs and should not be around any other female dogs. She can be overstimulated by other dogs when on-leash, however, does well wearing a prong collar and redirects with treats. Lake has been known to counter-surf and raid the trash can in her foster home and will require continued monitoring as she gets to know her new surroundings and becomes more comfortable. Lake is working on basic obedience, is fully crate trained, and is working on not jumping up on people when nervous or excited.

Lake will require a handler who has experience with stubborn strong dogs but who also is looking for an affectionate partner. She responds well to fair but firm correction and is eager to learn. She is a high-energy girl who would do best in a home that is looking for a working partner, especially in advanced obedience as she requires regular mental stimulation. Looking for a challenge but also an adventure partner for life? Affectionate, complex, silly, and strong- Lake could be the girl for you.

West Coast adoptions only, HOWEVER, if application is strong we may consider placement in other Western US states.

Our adoption process includes- completion of an application, followed by a telephone interview. If that goes well, we will arrange for a home visit.

Adoption Donation: $500.00

Transport along Interstate 5 (Bakersfield, CA to Bellingham, WA) is available but cost not included in adoption fee.

For all inquiries, please fill out our adoption application first, as the volunteer answering emails is probably not the coordinator for the specific foster home/dog.

Thank you for visiting The Woof Project!
