Sweet, loving and affectionate, Kestral truly thrives on the simple pleasures of life. Never tiring of getting or giving love and attention, she would likely be a caregiver if she were human. She has yet to meet a stranger and does well with children and adults alike.

Being food motivated will help her new family continue to work on mastering basic commands. She is housetrained and so silent in her crate, you hardly know she is there- unless, of course, a strange dog approaches. She can be stubborn at times so more firm corrections may be needed. However, she is biddable, wants to please, and takes correction well. She does have extremely high prey drive towards cats and some birds, so a home without small furry or feathered animals is a requirement.

Kestral rides well in the car and is always up for the next adventure. Visits to the vet make her a bit nervous, but she remains properly behaved and is easy to handle. Loud noises don’t shake her, and she is not one bit embarrassed that she missed ringing in the new year by sleeping right through the fireworks display.

Once she is comfortable with her new surroundings, her confidence is boosted, and she can get a bit distracted while exploring- or maybe she just has some selective hearing! Her recall is not solid just yet, so proper leash/long line control is a must. She enjoys the company of other dogs when introduced properly and long pack walks are a favorite pastime of hers.

Kestral is easy to live with and would be fine for someone looking for a less demanding companion. She will be proud to prance right beside you on a few walks a day, chase the ball for a bit (but won’t return it), or just cuddle next to you on the couch. For the times her person can’t be engaged with her, she has no problem entertaining herself batting around her toys like a cat or just snuggling into her fluffy dog bed with as many soft dog toys she can.

West Coast adoptions only, HOWEVER, if application is strong we may consider placement in other Western US states.

Must have previous or current, purebred Malinois experience OR other high drive working breed experience. Have no children under the age of 5 years old OR have extensive experience with children and high drive dogs.

Our adoption process includes- completion of an application, followed by a telephone interview. If that goes well, we will arrange for a home visit.

Adoption Donation: $400.00

Transport along Interstate 5 (Bakersfield, CA to Bellingham, WA) is available but cost not included in adoption fee.

For all inquiries, please fill out our adoption application first, as the volunteer answering emails is probably not the coordinator for the specific foster home/dog.
