Kermie is looking for a person who can continue to set him up for success through structure! This beautiful boy has an adorable goofy side, but you won’t see much of it if his mental and physical needs aren’t met! If Kermie were human, he’d be a Youtuber sponsored by name brands and his millions of subscribers would watch him conquer mountain peaks regularly! While his adventures are intense, the real attraction is his goofy personality!
Kermie is an affectionate and curious busybody with an oral fixation, so he always needs something in his mouth– even if it’s his food bowl after he’s finished his meal! He can be shy around strangers, but when left alone will ignore them.
He has great focus and work ethic when working for his ball or tug play but can get overstimulated with too much activity around him, especially involving other dogs. When it’s feeding time or he observes another dog being corrected, his overstimulation can lead to obsessive spinning which can be corrected by his e-collar.
His smarts and trainability make him a great candidate for most dog sports and he has even started nose work and tracking with his foster! He has mastered his basic obedience as well as ‘here’ (also off-leash but with e-collar), ‘heel’/’with me’, ‘place’, and ‘out’. He is also crate trained and muzzled-trained which is handy for traveling and visits to the vet. He is working on his off-leash long down-stay, send-backs, and hold. This smarty-pants needs his exercise to keep him in line though! He loves to play fetch and run on the treadmill, although, he needs to wear his muzzle while doing so because he’ll mess with the control panel (he knows how to uncover it if you try with a dog bowl or bucket!).
This too-smart-for-his-own-good goofball requires an an adult only home with a firm handler who can provide structure and read into his micro-behaviors to redirect him before they become bad behaviors. His handler must be highly skilled in working dogs and will need to meet his mental and physical needs daily which is a considerable time commitment!
Kermie is currently housed in an Impact crate and will likely need to be kept in similarly indestructible crate. If you’re looking for a high drive, high energy sport candidate who thrives on structure and engagement, look no further!
