Katy is an incredibly mellow and loving girl, once she’s comfortable and gets to know you. She craves touch and attention and is happiest being your shadow in a quiet room, just being in your presence. She is still very shy with people she doesn’t know, will hide, and ignore them, and takes quite a while to warm up. However, once she does, she’s the sweetest thing ever. She loves zooming around the backyard, grabbing any toy she can find. Although she does miss quite a few on her left side since she is missing her eye on that side. Though she doesn’t have a lot of drive for toys she just likes to be silly with them on her own. After running a few laps, she wants to hang out in a quiet room, with her favorite person soaking in all the pets and love she can.
Katy is nervous in new situations, so her foster hasn’t ventured out with her much. Loud noises are scary, and she will try to hide. She is unsure and lacks confidence at the vet but was cooperative and allowed handling during the exam. She is potty trained, crate trained, and rides nicely in the car when crated. Children make her uncomfortable so a home free of children is required.
Katy is working hard on her basic skills, confidence building, and her overall house manners to curb things like counter surfing and tearing up soft items such as rugs, dog beds, etc. She truly comes to life when around other dogs, but care needs to be taken so she doesn’t fully rely on them and create a false sense of security. Having another dog in the home to help her feel comfortable would be ideal, but her new family needs to be willing to set her up for success and help work on her confidence individually. Katy works best for food and praise, is extremely sensitive and only requires very soft verbal correction. Anything more than that, even a minor noise or quick movement, will make her shut down and stop working for her food. She can recover but is more hesitant to work for things afterwards.
Katy is looking for a very calm, quiet, and predictable home. She would do best and be happiest in a home with an older couple, with no children as she’s just not comfortable with the noise and commotion that comes with kids. She’s never shown any prey behaviors towards them, she’s just visibly uncomfortable. Her favorite thing is to hand out in the foster’s office (the kid-free zone) chewing on a yummy chew and holding down the dog bed. She periodically will get up and ask for some pets, and then goes back to relaxing in the quiet. She’d love a home where one or more of the adults works at home, so they can shower her with pets and cuddles as her main goal in life is to be a pet and to be treated like the sweet princess she is.
