Heckler's overbite fits his personality; he is goofy, sweet, cuddy, eager to please, and exceptionally loyal. Heckler is a little on the reserved side and seems to prefer women over men, but once comfortable he will end up in anyone's lap. He is good with other neutral dogs, and has not shown any reactivity. He does not resource guard toys or food and seems to like calm and respectful kids. Loud noises don't seem to bother him either. Heckler also does well at the vets office.
Heckler has excellent leash manners on a prong collar (until he sees a rabbit). He responds well to moderate-hard leash and verbal correction depending on his drive level at the time. He knows "sit", and is working on "stay" "down". Once bonded, he is able to hike offleash and naturally checks in. He will not be a dog you can leave alone for long periods unless some sort of exercise/mental stimulation is provided; or else he does howl or scrape his nose on gates/doors to get out. He rides nicely in the car after some initial whining.
Heckler's ideal home would be an easy-going, semi-active one that will continue his training and socialization. Like most Shepherds, he thrives on routine, boundaries, rules and consistency. Heckler loves going for long walks, hikes, playing at the river, but is also content to hang out at home.
