Mister Hank is an older gentleman who is looking for his forever buddy! He loves being around people and participating in all their human activities. As long as he is involved and loved on is all that he asks for in life, well that and food (more on that later).
If Hank was a human, his foster believes that he would be a professional food taster. Yes, you read that correctly, this fella is a food hound. If you have something edible, he will want a taste to make sure it is okay for consumption. #NiceSandwichYaGotTherePal Sometimes he forgets that he is a large dog and will want to be your favorite lap dog. Overall, he is pretty chill when just lounging around the house with his foster family, people around him are his jam. If it is movie night, he will make room on the couch for himself so no need to worry about that. For playtime, he loves playing tug-o-war with ropes and other toys he can sink his teeth into.
He settles right in during car rides, happy to be coming along on the adventure. During his trip to the vet’s office, he was great and had zero issues during his time there. Additionally, loud noises do not seem to bother him at all. #WinWinWin Hank seems to be a sound guy overall, he will accept pets and affection from everyone and is not bothered one bit by the resident foster cat either. The only issue that he has shown during his time in foster is some resource guarding with other dogs. His foster is working on it with him, he will growl and snarl when other dogs approach something that he has claimed as “his” such as a blanket or other item. Other than that, he is great around other dogs.
During Hank’s time in foster care, he has mastered Sit, Down, Come, Heel, Drop (sometimes requires a trade for food), and Crate commands. The only command he is still working on diligently is his Drop/Out/Aus command, as he enjoys bartering for food with the command. Also, his foster believes that he might have been trained with German commands in the past as he responds to them very well. For high-value items during training he loves food and will work for it all day long it seems, praise is the secondary driver. Hank is house-trained and responds well to verbal corrections. Additionally, he will indicate if he wants something such as if his water bowl is empty. With him being a foodie, it is wise to keep most food items out of “Range” as he will attempt to taste them.
Hank is searching for his forever home which he could be a single dog or possibly cohabitate with a truly “neutral” other dog if the person knows how to work through resource guarding. Hank had been exposed to bite work prior to entering Woof, and while he does enjoy it, he is at an age where taking him into the sport field or ring would be pretty hard on him. But if you have a bite sleeve or have a friend that does, he would really enjoy that on occasion. So, if you are looking for an older guy that still has some gas in the tank but needs some guarding work, Hank just might be your guy! If you have proven experience handling a dog with his training, we’d love you to apply!
