Ernie is the class clown and loves to play. He is great on walks and enjoys being outside, wanting nothing more than to be with his family and in the company of other dogs. If he were a human, Ernie would be a cheerleader: he wants everyone to be as excited as he is and wants everyone to join in the game!
Ernie is very outgoing, energetic, and often clumsily forgets his size. He will barrel through the house like a big, fuzzy bull but is also very affectionate and will crawl right onto your lap when he is ready for some downtime. Ernie is great at meeting new people when on a leash, is typically unreactive to other dogs, and is easily redirected when something distracts him. Due to his size and energy level, he would do best in a home without small animals (including cats), very young children, or small livestock (chickens, rabbits). Ernie loves to play with other dogs but sometimes needs correction as he can be overbearing and ignores boundaries. He rides well in the car, does well at the veterinarian’s office, and is fully crate trained. Ernie can sometimes be reactive to other dogs barking/playing if he can’t join in on the fun. He has mastered basic obedience and is working on not jumping on people when excited. Ernie is a typical puppy and has been known to counter-surf, chew whatever he can get his mouth on, and steal food if you’re not paying attention however is improving and is easily redirected to more appropriate activities.
Ernie would do best in a home with another dog his size to play with as well as an active family. He will need a handler who is patient and ready to enforce boundaries. Ernie might be a good candidate for competitive obedience or agility given his activity level and eagerness to please. He is content to adhere to whatever schedule his family might follow as long as he has plenty of opportunity for exercise. Ernie is an entertainer just looking for the perfect audience – could that be you?
