Dexter is a fun-loving boy that is searching for an adventure partner to call his own. He tries to please his people 24/7 and wants nothing more to be beside you. It can be anything from running with you during your morning jog, hiking in your local mountains or just relaxing at home after a long day of being goofy.

His foster said that if he was a human, he would probably be employed at the local crossfit gym as a coach. Since he is always up for activities and his motivation is contagious, luring you in with his goofy grin and puppy like eyes. He is still a youngster that needs guidance, structure, and continued training to ensure he remains the best version of himself. #TryingToBeTheBestMeForYou. This guy loves to be petted and is super affectionate, it has been noted he vibrates trying to contain all his excitement. During walks around his foster’s property, he will often find something of “special” value to him to show off with, could be a stick, leaf or really anything. Dexter loves showing this item to you before he off to find a new one to show you also #LookWhatIFoundForYou. Sometimes he will even use it to barter for a good belly rub.

During his social outings he doesn’t interact with many people while out in public. Although he is great at the vet clinic, pet store, and with every friend or client of his foster’s that he has met. He can get very excited to see people, so a firm structure and guidance has been put in place for him. If he is loose (out of his crate) when people arrive, he is put into his “place” command until he calms down, then is allowed to come visit which is usually short lived as he is off to play with his toys. Dexter has never been around kids but has never shown any concerning behavior toward them from a distance while out in public. He is great with female dogs and puppies but is not really a friend of most male dogs, especially intact ones. Additionally, he has some prey drive so a forever house should be without cats or other small furry animals.

Dexter has mastered the following commands during his time in foster, Come, Place, With Me (handler-oriented stay and focus), Sit, Crate/Kennel, Release, and Quiet. Other items he is diligently working on is Down and Off, always a work in progress. His ideal forever home would be with an active person or active family with possibly a female dog. Someone who is an avid runner, hiker, explorer and has the desire to continue his training #NoCouchPotatoesHere. Since he can be dog selective, he would not be a candidate at this time for someone hoping to take him to a dog park, brewery, or farmers market where there could encounter other dogs with poor impulse control. He is fully crate trained and is never left unattended in the home.

If you are looking for an energetic activity buddy that just wants to do everything with you and has the goofiest of grins, look no further than Dexter.
