Daytona is an independent and happy guy.  He loves spending time with his people and occupying the space on their pillows directly over their heads.  #PossiblyPartCat  This boy has yet to meet a treat that he didn’t want to devour, and sometimes humans can use them to get him past his stubbornness.

If Daytona was a human, his foster believes that he would make a great camp counselor.  Not so much the type that wants to sing around the fire, more the type that watches the activities from a distance but will set the campers straight if they get out of line.  As mentioned above he is an affectionate guy that has an independent streak in there.  Also noted is that he loves to use his nose to sniff out treats, dropped food, and pretty much anything else that smells yummy or might be edible.  Daytona is not a super high-energy or high-drive malinois, he is happy with short walks, or hikes followed by a solid napping session.  #BoyLovesHisSleep  His foster said that he loves to play with his brother Duncan and his foster siblings.

Daytona loves riding in the car and loves being next to his person.  This combination leads to him needing clipped into the seat belt in the back seat so he doesn’t try to help with driving.  During his trip to the vet's office, he was pretty nervous, but he did well once distracted with food while getting his shots and temperature taken.  #BroWhereIsThatGoing  He is not a fan of loud noises such as thunder, it makes him very nervous, and wanting to be close to his people.  Currently, he is working on his crate training but is not a big fan of it, he cries when he is crated and knows you are home.  It is a work in progress with his foster family.

During his time in foster care, he has mastered Sit and Down commands.  He is currently still working on Off, Here, Wait, and his leash manners.  For training, he loves food as a motivator, but prior to coming to his foster, he was fed people food scraps so he will beg for food from the table from time to time.  For the most part, he is good in the house and has yet to show signs of being destructive, other than he will steal shoes and move things around.  With his crate, his forever home might need an Impact Crate or something like that since he will bend parts of his wire crate and pull things into it if they are left nearby.  #PossibleEscapeArtist

Daytona is on the lookout for his forever home!  His dream home would have a soft spot to sleep, maybe some kids, possibly another dog, an active human or humans, and plenty of food.  Someone who is looking for a chill guy who will need continued training and a best friend for many years to come.  So, if you think that Daytona is looking for your home, please apply!

Our adoption process includes- completion of an application, followed by a telephone interview.
