ABOUT CAYUGA

Age: 5 months

Gender: Female

Weight: 40lbs

Energy Level: Moderate-High

Overall Drive: Moderate

Location: Vancouver, WA

Cayuga has not had the best start in life, but she is catching up on all the socialization and training that she has missed! Her and two of her littermates were literally found roaming the street of Stockton, CA in starvation mode. Because of that, she has shown some food and high-value resource-guarding with other animals. She can be sensitive to fast movements and be a little hand-shy, but it doesn't stop her from climbing in laps for some love. She is highly people social and has never met a stranger!

In her short time in foster, She has already overcome a lot of her fears! Leashes use to mean #OMGImDying and she had to be carried everywhere like a #BigBaby. Now, she is walking on a leash multiple times a day with barely any drama. She still sometimes spooks, but does recover quickly and is learning to trust the leash holder to keep her safe. Thankfully, treats/kibble are a huge motivator for her, along with gentle praise.

Cayuga is decent in the bath after a few valid escape attempts (waterproof apron recommended for this girl). She is surprisingly fantastic for getting her ears cleaned and nails dremeled. Her foster is still working on his basic obedience, as they have just been mainly focusing on confidence building and handler engagement.

Cayuga's forever home would be one with no small children, a big backyard, cats ok, possibly one other neutral male dog or none, and a really stable environment. She would be a great adventure buddy for walks/hikes, and a great addition to your couch that you didn’t know you needed until you met her. If you have the environment that would best suit Cayuga and have some space in your heart for this special girl don’t wait to apply!
