Boone is that rare, beautiful, rarely seen, mythical creature – a unicorn if you will. Handsome and nearly perfect, he is truly a delight to be around and loves nothing more than being with his people. Boone is eager to please, loves everyone, and is environmentally stable. On occasion he will let his silly sideshow and use his front paws to remind you he is near you, flop to his side and roll into your lap if you’re on the ground and he LOVES it if you cheer and clap for his performance.
Boone has lived in a large family and with kids from 2.5 – 10yrs old and enjoys any human or canine interaction. He loves to play with other dogs, both male and female, intact and neutered. Boone is passive, avoids conflict, doesn’t play rough, and if another dog grumbles or tells him enough he immediately stops and goes about his business. He has also been around rabbits, cats, goats, and chickens. He is curious but redirects easily and then isn’t interested at all.
Boone is potty trained, rides well crated in the car, is well-mannered at the vets’ office and unphased by loud noises. He can and will break out of a cheap crate and is currently wonderful when kenneled in a Rough Land Kennel size XL. His desire to be included is strong and has jumped a low fence to go play with the neighbors’ dogs so proper containment is important.
His house manners are amazing! He is very calm and chooses to lay in his crate or on a dog bed, doesn’t get on the furniture or counters, and while he will collect your shoes, he is never destructive. Boone isn’t super food motivated but does love cheese and jerky type treats. He has mastered down, kennel, has a fantastic recall, and is great off leash. Due to an unknown back injury before coming into rescue he never naturally sits and avoids any type of luring to get him into the position. Mild verbal redirection is enough for him, and he responds best to positive and upbeat training.
Boones ideal home will be semi-active, and he would excel at being a walking partner. He is the perfect pet and an ideal first-time dog. He loves belly rubs, being brushed, going to stores, kids, dogs, and is just generally an incredibly happy dog. While he could live without other dogs, he would much prefer a home with another playful dog. If you are looking to have your very unicorn, run, don’t walk to get your application in!
