ABOUT AURA

Age: 11 months

Gender: Female

Weight: 43lbs

Energy Level: Moderate

Overall Drive: Moderate to High

Location: Portland, OR

Working with Aura is not going to be an easy journey, but seeing her progress is well worth the work. With a confident, patient, and consistent female handler, this gal could conquer anything; although her stature, swiftness, and high jumps appear to be a calling for agility! She may also be a good candidate for fly ball due to her strong ball drive.

Aura bonds strongly with her human and lives for their love and praise. Once bonded, she doesn’t want anything to do with other humans and exhibits strong reactivity towards everyone who tries to interact with her, unless they are offering a treat. This does not mean she is reacting towards everyone, she does well in large hardware stores like Home Depot where few or no one is interested in her (unlike the pet store), but finds eye contact extremely triggering. So far, she has not done well with guests in the home but will quickly settle in her crate after the guests’ initial entry. Although it’s not ideal, she shows promise with her quick learning abilities– she can learn movement-based tricks (like spin) and know its verbal command in one training session and remember it the next day! She just needs someone with the time to show her that everyone just wants to give her the affection she craves so aggressively.

Aura walks well on prong, is crate-trained, house-trained, has solid recall, and responds well to verbal and e-collar corrections. She knows her basic obedience, but her stays could be extended (spatially and temporally), as well as: (go to your) crate, place, wait (released by “okay”), off, spin, come around, and shake. Her problematic behaviors are primarily her reactivity towards humans, but she also exhibits reactivity to other reactive/too-enthusiastic dogs outdoors, all dogs indoors, and she tends to jump when unsure especially in new settings.

When you are Aura’s person, all she wants to do is stay near you, be touched, snuggle and play! She enjoys car rides, new places (with uninterested people and few dogs), sitting or standing on things that give her height, and rolling in anything and everything that smells interesting or is soft! She is happy to play by herself (as long as you’re nearby) and is extremely entertaining to watch as she throws her toys in the air and romps across the floor while shaking them rigorously in her mouth. She will undoubtedly make you laugh. Every. Day. By the end of each day, at least 8+ toys are strewn across the floor, and maybe even the table as she gets good air on some of her throws! When given some freedom, she will often check on you to make sure she knows where you are and will always choose to nap near or touching you. Aura enjoys walks but loves fetch the most! She loves it so much; she won’t take a break unless you force her to! When Aura is comfortable, she is confident, fearless, and sassy! Overall, she is a strong-willed lady ready to climb baby gates and move furniture to be by your side!

This so-close-to-perfect pup would thrive with a single woman who is willing to put the time into working on her reactivity and exercising her quick mind with sports! She could have a submissive brother of a similar energy level, but their interactions should always be supervised as she has possessive tendencies and can become a bully if allowed. She has loved romping around with her older submissive sister and takes corrections well. If she gets used to the presence of another dog, she may cautiously initiate play but does play appropriately.
